Shoe-goo just hasn't been doing it for me lately. I make a repair and it lasts a week, maybe three, and then fails again. Our relationship was on the rocks.

So I was ripe for seduction by sugru. I ordered a pack to play with, even though it's pretty pricey. (It hasn't arrived yet.)

But a couple days later, I realized that this may be just a colored and differently-packaged form of silicone caulk. If that's so, the colors and packaging better be awesome to compensate for the price.

Has anyone else played with these?

Any suggestions for side-by-side comparisons?

oooh, sugru looks fascinating and FUN! (sadly, i have severe mcs and it's chemical name starts with "ethylmethyl" so it's most likely something i can't be near).

looking at the pages the major difference seems to be that sugru is putty like (moldable by hand); at least several years ago when i last used silicone caulk, it's *not*; it's goopy and sticky and oozy. the way it behaved, i don't think any of the things shown on the sugru gallery would work. one could probalby mold things if one had a mold to fill with the caulk/goop, but unless it's changed dramatically in 10 years, i doubt one could sculpt cool little bits by hand in it.
