It all comes out in the wash

Our old washer was dying. We've repaired it, and had it repaired, plenty of times in the past decade, but now that the transmission was going, it wasn't worth the work. So it has been getting louder and clunkier, and... coupled with my husband's deep desire to buy a front-loader (seriously, he's been jonesing for one since 2005) and some spare cash that came our way recently, it was time. We bought a new washer.
It was delivered today, and the guys were supposed to install it and take away the old one. But the wall shutoff isn't actually shutting off. I'm pretty annoyed about this, given that we had that fixed about a year ago.
Upshot is, we have a shiny shiny new washer sitting next to the old washer, but not hooked up.
We have the old washer still hooked up and still noisy and clunky.
We have me, getting ready to go camp for the weekend and deciding to deal with it when I get back. On one hand, hiring a plumber would be faster. On the other, the last plumber didn't do a good job. Also... I solder pipe pretty well. I bet I could do it without melting anything that shouldn't be melted.... I dunno. Deal next week.
I should never have said that thing I said, about how very easily the washer-replacement was proceeding.
